What Is Tuition Reimbursement?

Tuition reimbursement is a benefit offered by many healthcare employers — including nursing homes, assisted living facilities, home care agencies, and hospitals — where your employer agrees to pay back some or all of your tuition costs after you complete your training.

This is one of the most common and effective ways NCNA students fund their education, particularly those who are already employed in a healthcare or caregiving role.

Already employed? Ask your HR department if your company offers tuition reimbursement. Many facilities actively encourage staff to pursue CNA or HHA certification.

Who Typically Offers Reimbursement?

Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNFs) — Often reimburse CNA training for aides and orderlies looking to advance.

Home Care Agencies — Frequently sponsor HHA and CNA training for their caregiving staff.

Assisted Living Facilities — May cover medication technician and CNA certification costs.

Hospitals & Health Systems — Some offer reimbursement for entry-level clinical certifications.

State-Funded Programs (CalGrows) — Provides direct reimbursement to workers in long-term care settings.

How the Process Works

Check with Your Employer

Talk to your HR department or supervisor about whether your company offers tuition reimbursement or sponsorship for healthcare training.

Get Pre-Approval

Most employers require pre-approval before you enroll. Obtain written confirmation of the reimbursement amount and any conditions (e.g., continued employment for a set period).

Enroll at NCNA & Pay Tuition

Enroll in your program and pay tuition upfront (or use an NCNA installment plan if available). Request an official enrollment letter and receipt from NCNA admissions.

Complete Your Program

Successfully complete your NCNA program and obtain your certificate of completion.

Submit Reimbursement Claim

Provide your employer with proof of completion and receipts. Your employer will process the reimbursement according to their policy timeline.
